The Eighth labour of Hercules was to steal the mares of King Diamedes, a giant.
When Hercules arraived in Thrace and saw the Mares tethered to a bronze manger he wasn't sure what to do next. He decided to make his friend Aderus guard the Mares.
Once he had captured Diamedes he went to steal the mares. When he reached there and saw that his friend Aderus had been eaten he fetched Diamedes and fed him to the Mares. He then Founded the city Aderus next to where his friend had died. Whilst the Mares were eating he tied thier mouths up and took them to King Eurytheus.
